The ditto team love getting out and about to industry events – most recently we attended Crypto Compare Digital Asset Summit 2020, part of London Blockchain Week, at the brilliant Magazine London venue.

Take a look below at our highlights from across the event. In light of recent COVID-19 outbreak all guests were reminded to take precautions such as using hand sanitation stations and avoiding physical contact – which made for an inventive mix of network greetings at the ‘hand-shake free’ conference.

What was CryptoCompare Digital Asset Summit 2020?

As part of London Blockchain Week, CryptoCompare Digital Asset Summit is Europe’s leading digital asset conference, focusing on bridging the gap between the digital asset ecosystem and traditional finance.

Industry leaders addressed the most pressing issues facing the industry, featuring key themes including the evolution of the digital asset marketplace, the institutionalization of digital assets and the innovative financial instruments needed to accommodate this transition.

Digital Asset Custody: The key to Institutional Adoption

The first key panel discussion of the day on the impressive CryptoCompare Stage was ‘Digital Asset Custody: The key to Institutional Adoption’ featuring Monica Summerville – Director Fintech Research Practice at TABB Group, Alex Batlin – Founder and CEO at Trustology, Anna Shugol – Technical Specialist at IBM, Miha Grcar – Head of Business Development at Bitstamp and Francesco Roda – Chief Risk Officer at Koine.

“The role of a custodian is not just keeping the asset safe, it’s to provide services to fulfil your clients.”

Custody has been described as the most significant missing puzzle piece holding back inflow of institutional money into digital asset markets. Additionally, institutional investors need safeguarding services to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

But, what makes a digital asset custodian ‘institutional-grade’? The panel discussed meeting the needs of professional investors for compliant and secure storage with governance mechanisms to enable third parties, such as regulators and fund administrators, to receive information without compromising the safety, whilst simultaneously, providing access to working capital.

Gaming: The Final Economic Frontier

We checked out the DeFi stage for ‘Gaming: The Final Economic Frontier’ with Moderated by Simon Coweell CEO ZEBEDEE, Christian Moss Head of Game at MANDELDUCK Ltd. and Jack Everitt Founder THNDR GAMES.

“We are now realising the economics of truly valuable assets within a gaming experience.”

The talk gave a perspective on how crypto could revolutionise the way gaming firms generate value, for both business and consumer. This talk discussed the economics of truly valuable assets within a gaming experience. Placing bitcoin into a game can be used as a re-engagement advertisement campaign to encourage people to play – it can also put money into the gamers wallet too as they engage and unlock more achievements.

Networking and Street Food

Despite corona virus halting global travel and conference attendance, there was a real buzz across the event as people came together to talk about the maturation of the crypto space, value for investors, what the future holds for institutional adoption – as tasty street food and craft ale was served.

The Convergence of Finance and Crypto: Predictions for the Decade Ahead

Rounding off the day was ‘The Convergence of Finance and Crypto: Predictions for the Decade Ahead’ panel discussion on the Institutional Stage, featuring Richard Crook – Director of ditto retained client LAB577.
