Warner’s recent fantasy blockbuster, The Hobbit, opened up another of J.R.R. Tolkien’s incredible adventure stories on the big screen. The film has inspired web developers all around the world, some of whom are making the most of the latest Google Chrome technologies to bring the fantasy world online.
In collaboration with Google and Warner Brothers, an all-Swedish team of North Kingdom, Swchimpaz and DinahMoe have created A Journey Through Middle-earth, Awwward’s Site of the Month for January.
The site’s objective was to bring some of The Hobbit’s theatrical Middle-earth experience to the web, and transport millions of fans into the world with a mobile-first web experience.
The site is the latest Chrome Experiment, designed to bring a beautiful 3D experience to mobile. The site runs WebGL in Chrome for Android devices with high-end graphics cards.
