January is the time of year when newly made resolutions get put to the test, including the inevitable declaration that “I’m going to try to be more healthy this year.” We all know that running on a treadmill can get a bit tedious and boring at times, but there is a new treadmill in town.

A company called Technogym has made a treadmill that is controlled by Google Glass. This allows the user not only to run, but to surf the web, play music, watch videos and post news to social networking sites.

You might be wondering why, if someone is looking to distract themselves while exercising, they don’t just run outdoors? Well, the idea is to provide the user with real-time feedback on their workout based on communication with third-party fitness trackers such as Fitbit Flex, Jawbone Up or Nike Fuelband. Furthermore, the Technogym equipment provides the ability to use entertainment apps and to post your fitness stats on Facebook, Twitter etc.

There is no set date as to when this machine will be on sale, and there’s no clear picture of what the cost may be. However, its first sighting will be at CES International, a global consumer electronics and technology tradeshow that takes place every January in Las Vegas.

It all looks very nice and shiny but why not save yourself the money and buy a new pair of running shoes and an iPod? What happened to the good old days of getting fresh air and getting fit at the same time?
