Campfire presents ‘Big Boost Mondays’ with Jo Mangan – pushing the boundaries of art and performance
Big Boost Mondays is a gathering of the like-minded on the first Monday of the month, to enjoy an evening with inspirational speakers and “doers” from the world of technology, art and culture. The event will take place at our brilliant FORA studio in Clerkenwell, London.
Our complimentary alcohol-free bar is a great place to catch up with friends and make new ones too, and provides a great space for creative networking.
In the second 2019 ‘Campfire’ series, we were joined by Irish award-winning theatre and artistic director Jo Mangan.
Jo Mangan is not just an art director… she curates emotions and feelings, bringing them together to be experienced through diverse and immersive award winning festivals across Ireland and beyond. Jo is currently curating the Ireland exhibition for the Prague Quadrennial Design Exhibition through the creation of a Virtual Reality film Design and Destroy, which will be shown at Dublin Theatre Festival and Belfast Festival.
“I think I just developed a love for making things that had an immediate impact – I love the ephemerality of theatre. I love the fact that it exists for a bubble in time and then just disappears – you can never capture it. No video or nothing else can get a hold of that moment.”
Jo talks about why she is passionate about theatre.
"The arts is Ireland’s natural resource. It’s embedded in our DNA."
Jo talks about why the arts are integral to the Irish nation.
"The high arts are considered necessary. I work with street art, performers and contemporary arts - they are not considered high arts forms and I have a real problem with that - they are the least funded by the Arts Council and the least focused on when it comes to general international promotion"
Jo expressing her disdain for the disparity between arts forms.
