Interviewing for a role has always been a challenge, but I think that things have gotten worse since the dawn of the internet. Now employers are able to check out prospective hires’ social media presence, validate references in the blink of an eye and, most significantly, conduct interviews via video. An American agency called Mullen have put together a video that sums up the awkwardness of interviewing online, but with a surprising and heartwarming conclusion that you definitely won’t be expecting.
The video, titled ‘World’s Toughest Job – #worldstoughestjob’, consists of several people interviewing online for a fake position as a “Director of Operations” at a company called Rehtom Inc. The requirements are nothing short of brutal:
• Standing up almost all the time
• Constantly exerting yourself
• Working from 135 to unlimited hours per week
• Degrees in medicine, finance and culinary arts necessary
• No vacations
• The work load goes up on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and other holidays
• No time to sleep
• Salary = $0
Sound like the world’s most thankless job? Take a look at the spot and see the twist unfold for yourself:
Are you in shock? It is true though, and it does make you think – how often do we say thank you to the Directors of Operations in our lives? The job requirements go from an unreasonable list of demands to a revealing and thought-provoking group of achievements. It certainly puts the odd word of complaint or fuss into context.
Mullen have also put the job listing online for you to see https://rehtom.net/
This is a heart-warming spot, that gets its point across in a sweet but powerful way. So the next chance you get, give your mum a call and tell her how great she is.
