CordaCon 2019
Welcome to our CordaCon 2019 showcase special, brought to you by Invenica – the boutique emerging technology development house, and LAB577 – blockchain specialists in financial market solutions.
R3’s Corda is fast becoming the de-facto blockchain network for financial markets and beyond. R3 was established in 2015 with 42 founding members in the consortium. In 2016, R3 launched Corda as an open source blockchain platform with the support of a vibrant community of organizations and developers. Today, the Corda Network is a publicly-available internet of Corda nodes operated by over 300 participants across a global ecosystem.
Each October London plays host to their flagship conference – CordaCon – bringing the tech, business and DLT communities together for two days of talks, networking and collaboration. And ditto were there to capture key insights and highlights just for you.
With Gareth Mee the CEO of Invenica we explore the adoption of DLT in Telco and Media, with guests Thomas Spencer, Head of Telco Business Development at R3 and Jorge Bento, CTO of Enterprise IOT at Vodafone.
With Richard Crook, the CEO of LAB577, we discuss Digital Assets – and their Digital Asset Shared Ledger platform with guests Fred Dalibard, Head of Digital CIB & Global Blockchain Coordinator at Natixis and Chair of R3’s Board, and Oli von Landsberg-Sadie, CEO & Founder of prime digital assets broker BCB Group.
And with our roving report Joseph Lee, we learn what’s catching the eye of firms such as ATOS, Deloitte and Worldpay.
Check out the shows below – and if you would like to learn more about blockchain or any of the themes discussed please get in touch any time.
“Blockchain is the tech that will change the world, it’s just a matter of when. CordaCon demonstrates just how mature the space is becoming, with large corporates and real use cases.”
Gareth Mee - CEO, Invenica
“Cross border payments or settling any kind of asset, traditional or a digital representation of an asset, has a deep and rich workflow that requires a lot of cost and infrastructure to support. There are many efficiency gains that can be made.”
Richard Crook – CEO & Founder, LAB577
"We see telecommunications and the communications service sector as an emerging industry for R3. We are looking at the carriers interested in blockchain, what their challenges are and where can corda tech be used."
Thomas Spencer - Business Development Director & Telecom Lead, R3
“IoT allows you to bring a representation of a real asset and blockchain allows trustable, secure transactions between two parties.”
Jorge Bento - CTO, Vodafone
“Initial digital offerings are coming and we have to be ready to support our clients with that. On the flip-side is fiat money on blockchain. Projects like Libra are a catalyst for this, it’s making us wake up and explore the readiness to connect to that new payment rail.”
Fred Dalibard - Chairman of the Board, R3 & Head of Digital CIB & Global Blockchain Coordinator, Natixis
“Everybody has such a distinct architecture, so our first challenge really is understanding a company’s infrastructure and meeting their requirements, which involves bespoke development from us.”
Oliver von Landsberg-Sadie - CEO, BCB Group
"The power of blockchain is creating independence. It allows people to control their own processes, their own data and be more independent of industries that use a centralised authority party."
Ivo Luijendijk - Industry Director for Financial Services, Atos
“If you come from a computer science background you don’t learn blockchain development or how to develop on corda, because it’s not on the curriculum. A huge challenge is the paradigm shift from standard development. Blockchain is a new space. A challenge for the industry is to learn these skills.”
Andrew Wilkinson - Blockchain Software Engineer, Worldpay
“2020 will see massive adoption of blockchain. Blockchain is a multi-sport game. You need to go to many players and work with them, this takes time but everybody wants to leverage on the opportunity to be talking in a digital only way with other market players.”
Petko Karamachev - Director, INDUSTRIA
“We saw a significant value for the domestic market in KYC utilities for Financial Institutions. Each Financial Institution can spend on average about £15million on KYC processes, so throughout the industry costings for KYC are very significant”
Jamie Counihan - Senior Manager EMEA Blockchain Lab Manager, Deloitte
“From a study on 67 production networks, our research shows that it takes on average around 2 years to go from POC into production, with some firms taking as little as 3 months.”
Keith Bear - Research fellow & Head of Alternative Finance, Cambridge University
